Untold Stories: Tales of the Town
‘Untold Stories: Tales from the Town’ is a ten-week community theatre project led by Live Borders Arts & Creativity and Heart of Hawick where anyone with an interest in writing or acting can work with professional theatre makers to bring their stories to the stage.
The project focuses on expanding the untold stories of some of Hawick's most iconic buildings and their past, present and future inhabitants. Staff from Live Borders Museums, Galleries and Archives including The Heritage Hub and Borders Textile Towerhouse will be joined by a local historian to spark creative ideas for writers to respond to. We will then be working with local theatre legends Ellie Zeegan and Clare Prenton to develop these ideas into performances ready for the stage.
Over the ten weeks people will be encouraged and supported to develop their script writing or learn the basics of acting on the stage. The project will culminate with a performance in the Heart of Hawick which will be open to the public.
In the initial weeks participants will take part in light-hearted activities designed to build practical skills, confidence, and artistic vision. The Live Borders archive will also be made available to participants so that they can delve deeper into researching their topics. Participants will then be given the choice to either focus on script writing or acting with the aim of developing a showcase of short performances.
We will be hosting an information session on the 20th of January 2026 at Heart of Hawick for anyone who is interested in participating, no registration needed.
